Vines under the best climatic conditions

And with a view of the Stanserhorn!

It probably couldn't be more idyllic. As soon as host Fränzi Mohn set off with chef Jens Wiedehöft in the direction of Kastanienbaum, they couldn't help but be amazed. "Wow, how tranquil it is here," enthuses Fränzi, who comes from the Grisons mountains. Arriving in Kastanienbaum, the two experience an interplay of shadows and evening sun. It could hardly be more mystical. "The vines have the best climatic conditions here," explains Toni Ottiger. "The proximity to the lake has only advantages. In summer it cools, in winter the sun reflects the heat. "Ottiger, who was born in Obwalden, started with one hectare of vines in 1981. Now, over the course of the last 40 years, it has grown to seven hectares. "But the view of the Stanserhorn has always existed and fertilises our vines," Ottiger says with a smile.

Stanserhorn director Jürg Balsiger and Toni Ottiger have known each other for a long time. Their paths have crossed time and again. Balsiger was fascinated by Ottiger's striving for the highest quality. And Ottiger was simply impressed by how friendly and courteous things are on the Stanserhorn. When the new gastronomic concept "Essence of the Alps" was realised, it was clear to Fränzi Mohn, herself a passionate wine connoisseur, that the sparkling wine should also come from nearby. It was quickly decided that the two Ottiger sparkling wines "Petit Mousseux Extra-Brut" and "Vin Mousseux Brut AOC" had to be tried. "The sparkling wines tasted extremely good to me," says the Stanserhorn restaurateur, who at first almost couldn't believe that such fine things were growing on Lake Lucerne. "It must be the good view of the Stanserhorn..."

Two years ago, Otttiger, a wine expert, put his business into younger hands. He found worthy successors in his former employees Kevin Studer and Denis Koch. They are now passionately at work and are just as committed to sustainability as they are to profiling the canton of Lucerne as a wine canton.

Ottiger's sparkling wines are excellent as an aperitif, but also go well with fish or asparagus. That's why the fine Lucerne sparkling wines are also served at the popular candlelight dinners. These exclusive dinners, we know, are the best way to propose to the love of your life. Unfortunately, there are no statistics on this. What is certain, however, is that a glorious sunset and a glass of sparkling wine from Ottiger are the best way to set the course for a promising future.
